The limits
What this site will not do.
This is a subject where being vague does harm, so the limits are stated plainly rather than buried at the bottom.
What this site will not do
- Tell you which clinic to choose. That is procurement — cost, contract, regulator, refunds — and it is a separate enquiry from this one.
- Tell you whether to go. That decision has its own guide: sober.guide, on working out what to do about drinking.
- Replace your clinical assessment, your detox plan, or your aftercare.
- Pretend my four weeks were everyone's four weeks.
- Pretend rehab is the only route. It is not. For some people it is the right route. For some it is not.
- Sell you a bed, a placement, a referral or a clinic. There is nothing of that kind for sale here and never will be.
- Pretend the four weeks fix you. They do not. They start the thing that the next ninety days continues, and the next ninety days are their own subject.
Not medical advice
Everything here is a description of experience. Nothing on this site, including anything the SI (super intelligence) guide generates, is medical, clinical, psychiatric, psychological or therapeutic advice, and none of it substitutes for a doctor who can see you, examine you and take a history.
Withdrawal from alcohol can be medically dangerous. Admission, detox and medication decisions belong with a clinician who knows your case. This site will never tell anyone to stop drinking suddenly, and publishes no taper, no dose, no medication schedule and no home detox. Where detox and medication appear on the week-one and week-four pages, they appear because they are what happened and what a discharge letter tends to contain — not as something to follow.
One admission is not every admission
This site is one man's account of four weeks at one British clinic in 2020. The programme has moved since. Practice varies between clinics, between countries and between funding routes, and it varies most on exactly the details readers most want fixed: phones, cards, visits, food, cigarettes, time outside. Where this site says “most clinics”, it means most of the clinics one patient and many later conversations have described. Ask your own clinic. They will tell you.
This site is not a clinic, a rehab, a detox unit, a fellowship, a helpline, an intervention service or a placement broker. It does not assess, admit, refer or place anybody, and it names no clinic as the best one.
What you type
Do not name your clinic, your employer, your doctor or other patients in the chat window, and do not paste documents into it. Nothing written there is confidential or privileged. If the admission has become an employment, licensing, capacity or family-law matter, that needs a solicitor rather than this site.
